Ana Pardo, PhD

 

Ana was born in Jaca, Spain. In 2003 she earned her Bachelors degree in Biology at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. After completing her undergraduate studies, she joined the Department of Gene Therapy and Hepatology under the guidance of Jesus Prieto at the Centre for Applied Medical Research (Pamplona, Spain) to carry out her PhD. Ana’s research project was focused on the study of the mechanisms underlying liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy. During this period (2003-2007), she was also an assistant teacher of Genetics at the School of Medicine, Science and Pharmacy of the University of Navarra. Shortly after completion of her PhD in December 2008 entitled “Characterization and functional study of alpha-1-antichymotrypsin role in liver damage,” she elected to apply her expertise in regeneration and signaling to lung development and disease.

 

At present, Ana’s work focuses on the study of adult lung stem cells and lung regeneration and her scientific interests include (1) the identification of airway stem cells and (2) the elucidationof the molecular mechanisms involved in airway regeneration.

 

She spends her free time going to the cinema/theatre, reading, listening to music, walking, traveling and exploring New England.
